signed: Peyton Griggs, Jane Griggs, Lewis Crow and Nancy Crow
note: Robt. Nicholsre-sold this land to John Blythe, 24 Apr. 1833
note: this is difficult !Is Lewis Crow Sr. selling the land as executor and Lewis Crow Jr. and wife Nancy merly signing as witness or is Lewis Jr. selling the land .... they were both heirs to this property of deceased Jacob Zumwalt. ( the above is probably Peyton Griggs and Jane Basnett Griggs.)

200 Members of Crow Family attend Reunion( with Photo )
Nearly two hundred people, representing twenty five California Communities attended the reunion of the Crow Family held on June 24 at Alum Rock Park. The affair was the second annual reunion of the family and was the occasion of renewing old friendships and forming new ones among various branches of the family. Cousins who had not met for 45 years clasped hands again and plunged into “do you remember when” The younger generations were introduced to aunts and cousins they had never before met, and the tribute of a sigh was paid to those who had passed on.
The Crow family figured in the early history of California, members coming to this state many years ago by ox team from Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky. Crow Canyon near Hayward, took its name from this family and the Crow Canyon School, where many of the first California born generation received its education, is still standing.
A little over a year ago some of the older members of the family discovered that the family was drifting apart, that the first cousins were not acquainted, and that many of the members had not met in years. They decided to institute an annual family reunion, and immediately sent out cards to all the relatives they knew, with the request that the word be passed along to others who might not have been included in the list. The first reunionwas held last year at Alum Rock Park. with about 150 present. This year the attendance was greater, about 200 being present.
Patriarch Not Present.
The oldest member of the family, Lewis Crow of Calistoga, was unable to attend the meeting this year, but it is hoped he will be able to be present at the 1929 reunion. Lewis Crow passed the plains as a small boy to California. He is now 83 years old. (Lewis Crow died 21 Aug. 1928 at Calistoga, Ca.)
There was a picnic luncheon after which Arthur M. Carr of this city made a brief speech of welcome.
Mrs. Amy Crow Bath of Madeline, Lassen County, recited a poem most appropriate to the happy gathering. The rest of the day was spent in greeting relatives and reminiscences. Mrs. Joseph L. Tinnin of Manteca was presented with a silver tray as a souvenir of the occasion.
The youngest member of the family at the reunion was Loretta Ryan, 7 month old daughter of Mrs. Eleanor Bollinger Ryan and Thomas Ryan of San Martin. The next reunion will be on June 23, 1929.

My grandfather, Capt. Tichenor was looking for a good place to settle. He believed there would be a large city somewhere between Frisco and Astoria, he choose Port Orford, Curry Co. Oregon. In Portland he enlisted nine men to found a settlement there. They went South on Tichenor's ship " Sea Gull " and landed at Port Orford 9 Jun. 1851. He landed the men on what is now known as Battle Rock and furnished them in addition to supplies, the ship's cannon. He told them he would return in 10 days. Tichenor was delayed in Frisco and when he finally returned the men were gone. Tichenor found a diary that told of the attack of the Indians and of their leavingfor the Mouth of the Umpqua River. The men who were camped on Battle Rock were:

on the assumption that Lafayette is son of Wm. Zumwalt & Lavinia Bryan we refer to Harriet Zumwalt’s narative of trip to Cal. in 1849. .... my 10 year old brother (Lafayette) helped drive wagons and is probably the one she refers to as having helped make the beds out of pine limbs.
dau. Harriet says: My father William Zumwalt, moved his family when I was quite young to Polk Co. Mo. where we lived several years. Finally we settled near Bolivar, the county seat.... In the spring of 1849,May 1st, we left our home at Bolivar, Polk Co and started our journey westward. At age 13 - they stopped at Durham, then known as Niel's Ranch, now Butte Co. Ca. later moved to Long's bar on the Feather River, a short distance above Oroville. During the winter of 1849, it cost $25 a day to feed the family of 10, according to an account the writers father kept. After mothers death, they moved to Yuba City, Ca. also on the Feather River. We moved about from place to place and finally got back to Long's Bar where my youngest brother died.
