Did I send you the info on your/our cousins?
I just got out the Zschau foldr which I am going to send to my cousin Jim. In it is correspondance I have had with other Zschaus in US trying to establish connection.
I was in contact with your dad a fewyears ago but tha petered out on his end. I believe I sent him most of the info I have. I alsotried to make contact with Peter (?) of the insurance agcy in T Falls but that petered out on his end. I do have a copy of the "Zschau" coat of arms granted to a Zschau who was the Kaiser's forestry overseer. I have not tried to connect this with the Gfld/Turners Falls branch.
Have you been to St. Mary's cemetery in Turners. All the Zschaus from Gottlieb are buried there.
There was a Griesbach family in Turners that owned a grocery store when I was small--I am 69.
There are/were several families there relted to the Zschaus either directly or through marriage.
William Benedict Zschau married Anna Robinson Jarvis (Gervais) and had:
Florence m. Tom Fields
son Thomas m. Harriet Smith of Riverside
They live in Machias, ME
There so Thomas is a dealer in ely American antiques is married and has daughter
Lucien m. Barbara Nichols
The Zschaus had a now called bed and breakfast on High St. Gfld. directly across from the hospital called big Elm Tourist.
It sits above the street.
I had given up on the Zschau research.
Mary Ann Zschau is in a local theater group in Boston, mycousin Bill's dau.
Marilyn Zschau is in opera in CA
Ed Zschau was a senator from CA and I understand is at Harvard now. These two are distant cousins I assume, but no connection has been made. Someone is going to have to get to German records in Sxony.
The reason for the prblem with tracing was that leipzig was in E. Germany.
As German friends tell me the Z in the name is found only in that section of Germany close to the former Czechoslovakia.
I will send you copies of evrything I am going to send Jamie if you wish.
My email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
I just bought a new Dell but I will keep the Webtv. It is most convenient for correspondance.
