R.A. HEMPHILL was born June 19, 1829, and died at the home of his daughter
MRS. ALICE FOSTER, at Lucas, June 27, 1908, at the age of 79 years and
sixteen days. He was united in marriage to ELIZABETH ZIMMER, Feby 19, 1849,
whose death occurred six weeks after their marriage. On October 2, 1857, he
was married to MRS. MARGARET FEE, of South Carolina. To them were born six
children, three of whom are living, they are W.H. of East Las Vegas, New
Mexico; N.B. of Oakley, and MRS. ALICE FOSTER, of Lucas, and where the
deceased had made his home since the death of his wife three years ago.
He came to Lucas County in September, 1867, where he has since resided. He
had been a member of the United Presbyterian Church since early manhood, and
was a true Christian in all that the word implies. The funeral services
were held at the U.P. Church, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. N. Evans,
Pastor of the M.E. Church in the absence of their pastor, and the remains
interred in the Waynick Cemetery.
CARD OF THANKS
The wife and children of the late J.M. FOSTER, desire to extend their thanks
to the friends and neighbors who were so kindly disposed and rendered aid
and sympathy during the sickness and death of husband and father. Assurance
is given of appreciation.

*I found R. A. Hemphill, 1860 census living in Perry Twp., Monroe County, Indiana, age 30, Household included Margaret, 30, children: Jas. 8, Wm. 6, and Alice 2. Next household was Hugh Hemphill, possibly his brother? age 38, with wife Margaret, 32 and daughter Martha, 10. There was also a Andrew Hemphill, age 44 in the same twp. and county. All three, R. A., Hugh and Andrew along with R. A.'s wife were born in South Carolina. Hope this helps someone.
