Hi Sharman,
I have recently spoken to the daughter of Thomas Zerbe, my great uncle. She has confirmed that her grandparents, (my gg grandparents) were William and Kate Zerbe. She was unsure of William's parents. She also told me the following: William did die of smallpox, he was 24 years old. A male relative of his came into the home to help care for him and that man also later died of smallpox. I believe this to be John Zerbe who died 17 days later and is buried next to William at Stone Valley. Kate was married to a Witmer, before she married William and had a daughter to her first husband. This daughter also died of smallpox. Kate's maiden name is still unkown. Kate remarried two more times, to a Shoop from Dauphin County and to a Steir (sp?) from Northumberland County. I thought that maybe I could try to trace this through the Witmers. I also know the location of the old homestead where this all took place. Later this summer I hope to visit the Northumberland County courthouse to track this.
