I'm trying to find some information about a Daniel J. Zent and his wife Charlotte P. (Woodruff) who lived in Geary County Kansas in the 1860s-1870s and apparently moved to Oregon sometime before 1880. I'm not a descendant but I'm hoping that an obituary might shed some light on a dead end I've been working on.
My g-g-grandfather, Nathan W. Smith, was killed in the Civil War at the Battle of Independence (MO). His widow (Eliza W. Woodruff) remarried and with her 7 children moved to western Kansas in 1863 or so. Eliza died in 1865 and her sister and brother in law, Daniel and Charlotte Zent, took the children in. Daniel owned a grocery business in Junction City, KS.
I'm hoping to find the burial place of Nathan and Eliza through Zent family records - a long shot.
