If your grandmother hailed from Czechoslovakia, then it is most likely that her maiden name was Zeman and not Zemanov. Zeman was a very very common last name in the Slovak/Hungarian areas, and dates from as far back as the 1500s. It has no real meaning, however, in Hungarian nobility to be a 'Zeman' was to be the equivalent of an English 'sir' or 'lady'.
