Lydia, Thanks for your reply. I finally received my great-grandfather's death certificate from IL and he was born in Germany in 1866 so the John Zell listed in D.C. is not him. Listed at www.familysearch.org is the following, which might be your relatives: James J. Zell, age 38, born in PA; wife Mary A., age 32, born in PA. Both of their parents were also born in PA. The 1880 census record the above were listed on stated the place as Armstrong, PA. Hope this helps you in your search.
