Betty Zane McLaughlin Clark was born 1759. She had an illegitimate daughter, Miriam, by Van Swearingen in 1784 (this is proven by court documents in Ohio Co.: Commonwealth Vs Elizabeth Zane Present David Shepherd and John Boggs, Van Sweringen came into open Court (and) acknowledged himself indeted to the commonwealth in the penalty----- Sum of One hundred pounds on proviso that Mariam Zane a Bastard child be kept off the county until she arrives at the age of Eighteen years. Ohio County Deed Book #1 Page 65 May 6, 1784" She then married Ephriam McLaughlin in 1786 by whom she had five daughters between 1788 and 1794. McLaughlin died in 1799. Betty then married Jacob Clark in 1800 and had two more children by him. Betty was 40 years old when Ephraim McLaughlin died and Jacob Clark was 20 years old when they married. Betty died in 1823 at the age of 64. .: I have been researching the Zane family for over 35 years. Don't believe everything that you read about this family. MUCH misinformation has been published and republished about them and quite a lot of it has been misproven. Notify Administrator about this message?
