Zane Family Genealogy Forum

Having only recently followed up on some of my lineage I am puzzled by some things I discovered while in Ireland last month. While my last name is Zane my middle name is Griffin. I have not been able to trace the Griffin part of my lineage back beyond my paternal Grandmother's brother, John Griffin, who was a sailmaker in New York. Interestingly Robert Zane, the emigrant ancestor of most US Zanes came to this country on a ship named the "Griffin" (I believe this is correct). Since Griffin is a very common name in Ireland I'm wondering if there could be any connections back to Dublin of the 1600's, the ship, the families, etc. Long shot but who knows.
Any info gladly received.
