I am looking for my Grandfathers brothers and/or their familys. My grandfathers name was Robert E. Zander, he was killed in action during a night time raid of Bauchem Germany on Oct. 29th, 1944. Brothers were Lester (he wrote to Lester the most) and a "Donald" was mentioned in few of the letters. Cousin Gloria was also mentioned. Mothers name was Lillian (the letter from the military explaining my grandfathers death to Lillian shows an address in Milwaukee, Wisconsin). In letters written between Lester and my grandfather they began with: Dear Slob,. Sounds funny I know but if you have old letters PLEASE LOOK! Lester was also enlisted in the Army during WW2 and the majority of the letters to him had a New York address.
My Grandmothers name was Bernice (married Robert) they called her "Hoopy" a nickname from her maiden name. I know my grandparents were in Oregon for sometime and then on to South Carolina I believe. They had one son (my father) Clark Robert Zander born January 6th of 45.

The death of my grandfather destroyed my grandmother. She really wouldn't talk to us about him because it hurt her so much. They were truely in love. All the information I have so far is out of old letters and military correspondences that I found in a box in her attic.
