Hello Christine,

Sorry to say that while Jeremiah, Lucian and Aurelius (my line) were brothers and early settlers in Milwaukee, your Mathias, to my knowledge, was not related. The three brothers were all born in Troy, NY, and were among the nine children born to James and Ruth (Haskell) Zander.

I have done some research in Milwaukee and remember seeing Mathias in census and directory listings as well as in several histories of Milwaukee. Look for the History of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Vol. I&II, The Western Historical Company, Chicago, 1881, and Pioneer History of Milwaukee, v.1-4, by James S. Buck, Milwaukee News Co., 1876-1886.

Good luck with your research!

Nancy Zander Reese
