Nicolas Zamora of Reynosa

Nicolas Zamora and Ines Munguia were among the original settlers of Reynosa.

The Reynosa Census of 1757 posted at http://home.att.net/~PTrodriguez.ptrinform/Reynosa.htm lists: Nicolas Zamora married to Ines Munguia with Eight children.

From another copy, I have transcribed:
Census, Reynosa, Tamaulipas - 10 July 1757:
- Nicolas Zamora, married to Ines Munguia, has eight children, all arms, eleven horses, and one donkey.

- Toribio Zamora, married to Clara Fernandez, has three children, all arms, and four horses.

- Javier Zamora, married to María Jacinta, has six children, all arms, seven horses, and one donkey.

.... As to fields, there is only the one which has been mentioned; another one similar in its smallness that Nicolás Zamora has opened next to this town; the one that the mission has opened at a distance of about six leagues in which a little more than six measures of planted corn should fit; up to now they have not been able to make a judgement of how much each measure will produce since the plantings they have made have not come to fruition, some years because of the lack of seasonal rains and others because of the abundance of them with which they have become "aguachinado" for which reason, and also that these settlers are not normally inclined to farming, they have not applied themselves to opening more fields although the land is suitable for it when the weather cooperates."

The Reynosa census of 1753 lists the following for the same family:
: Census, Reynosa, Tamaulipas
: 13 January 1753:
Family #16:

       a Joseph Fernando de quinse,
       a Pedro Joseph de ocho,
       Maria de diez,
       Maria Nicolasa de nueve,
       Maria Torivia de quatro,
       Anastasia de un ano,
       Joseph Antonio de siete,
todas armas, ocho caballos, siete bacas, seisienta bestias caballares de (???), Tenia cinquenta cabezas de ganado menor.

And on the 1750 census:

I located a copy of Nicolas Zamora's will at the University of Texas, Pan Am in Edinburg - 27 pages, written in 1782.

In it he names his wife, Juana Ignes Munguia, her parents "hija lejitima de Dn. Diego Munguia, y de Da. Josefa de Ynojosa"

He names his parents: "hijo lejitimo de Christobal Zamora y de Juana de Trevino" ... he states he and his family are Catholic Christians.

He names their children ...

I will scan portions of the will and put them online on my Web site. It is difficult to read in places so I prefer to scan the portion naming the children. It will be online at:

I would like ot make contact with other descendandts of this lineage. I believe our ancestor to be their son, Jose Antonio married to Casimira Ochoa.
