What does "Zahnow" mean?
You know, I always wondered, too! It was bad enough in school, always being at the end of the line or the last to be seated or having teachers stumble over my last name! So I married into a very sensible name, as you can see!
I have heard that "zahn" has something to do with "tooth." Right or wrong, I don't know. Could that mean someone was a dentist? You can tell I'm not deeply moved by the importance of this problem! I guess I just tried too long, and am jaded.
But if you do learn something from someone else, please let me know! Then I'd have an answer for people who ask me.
I've found a lot of relatives (I thought my siblings and I were the only Zahnows in the world!). And some pretty nice people! I think there is more than one "clan" in the U.S. More than likely, we all have our source in Prussia (quite a story there!). And many are related to a family who immigrated in 1854. (Great history!)
Where do you fit in? I'd like to know.
