Darryl,
Nice to meet you.
I have a tiny bit of information on Marie Zabilka and Jacob Kubesh that I downloaded from the Latter-Day Saint's website.I believe your wife's ancestor is the sister of mine, but I have no proof of this.
My GG grandfather was Franticek Havel (Frank) Zabilka, b. 19 November 1835 is Hosin, Bohemia.Hosin is a tiny community just a couple of miles outside Ceske Budejovice.Franticek married his wife Maria Suchan on February 5, 1867 very sooon after he was discharged from the Austrian army in November 1866.He brought his wife and newborn daughter Mary to the US in April 1870 and settled in Protivin, Iowa, about 30 miles from Monona.According to Franticek's and Maria's wedding certificate, Franticek's parent were Jan (John) Zabilka and Veronika Busty.
What I find most interesting about Marie's and Jacob Kubesh's story is the similarity in places and names compared to my family's.Both my Franticek's and your wife's Marie's fathers were named John. They were born only seven years apart, well within the same generation. Both lived in or very near Ceske Budojovice. Both were married in 1867.Both moved to Iowa upon arrival in the US.Marie's and Jacob's children were named Frank, John, and Mary.Franticek's and Maria's had children named Mary, Anna, Frank, and John. (Along with Rose, William, and Lenna.)
What's even more interesting is the possible relationships between my Zabilkas, your wife's, and the third Zabilka family in Chicago. The Chicago Zabilkas, as I call them, trace their ancestry to another Franticek Zabilka born in 1826 in Lisov, Bohemia, just a few miles from Hosin. This Franticek, and his wife Magdalena Mikes has children named Frank, John, Rosalie, and Anna, among others.
Now all of this could just be coincidence and the use of popular names from the time, but I have to believe we're all related, I just don't know how.The connections will have to be discovered back before the families immigrated, and since I don't speak Czech, researching the Bohemian records is very difficult.
I have all of this information in a gedcom file if you would like a copy.I also have a picture of my Franticek's parents taken in Bohemia.(It is possible this is your wife's GG grandparents.)
Let me know if you're interested in swapping more info!
