I am searching for the Peter YUNKER family that settled in Minnesota in the 1870s to the 1890s. Peter was born April 18, 1842 in Germany. He married Katie Veght from Germany. She died in Germany. The father came to America with two of his three daughters and one son, that we know of about 1882. The children were named Mary, Herman, Elizabeth and Tracy. They settled in Renville County, MN in the towns of Bird Island, Hector or Buffalo Lake.

Mary married Anton MAHOWALD. She bore two children in Bird Island and then moved to Eden Valley in Stearns County. Her husband died in 1900 at 31 years old, leaving her with four children the oldest was eight and she was pregnant with her fifth child. There was a farm with the crop ready to harvest, they were poor, and there was her elderly father that needed her care. Mary died very young, in 1917, we guess between 45 and 50 years of age of complications during a Gall bladder operation. She died just weeks before her son, Ed would be ordained a priest. She was greatly admired in the entire area for her courage, grace and fortitude. She was also a woman of strong faith. She is buried in Eden Valley, MN.

Son, Herman Yunker, was a dealer in harnesses and shoes. Lived in Buffalo Lake,MN and was born in Germany, Oct. 22,. and He owned a Hardware store. We know that he lived there at least until 1917 when he wrote a note to his nephew upon his upcoming ordination. He was married Nov. 28, 1899 to Katie Boehme, born Oct. 5, 1879, five miles south of Bird Island, daughter of Christ and Mary (Engle) Boehme. Mr. and Mrs. Yunker had two children: Christine J., born Sept. 3, 1900; Edward J., born June 22, 1902.vEd, who became a priest and Christine (or Christopher) who lived in St. Cloud.

Daughter, Elizabeth(Annie) married Arthur LEU. We have a few photos of her with him and with her sister, both taken in Bird Island, Mn. They settled in Eureka, SD.

The fourth child, a girl, named Tracy, married a Mr. B. Herbert. She never immigrated to America, she was an infant when her mother died and her father took the family to the US. She was raised by relatives in Germany but kept in contact with her family in America.
