Yox History in the United States

Maybe there aren't as many Yox folks out there as I had anticipated. I do want to share what little I have been able to find out about the Yox Family on the United States.

The largest population found today is in New York. Of 84 people listed in the 1994 telephone directory on ancestry.com, the break out is as follows:

NY - 44.0%
MD - 22.6%
CA - 9.5%
OH & FL - 4.8%
PA 3.6%

and everbody else was 1-2%.

I am related to the MD Yox family & I am uncertain if they are in any way connected to the MD branch. I do know that the progenitor of the MD Yox branch came over between 1845-1860. They originated from Kur-hessan (current day Hessan-Kassel, Germany). The name was more than likely spelled Jax or Jox, but the pronunciation in the US led to the Yox spelling. There were Yox family member as early as the 1840 census in New York.

Would love to share information with other Yox family. My website is www.our-heritage.com

Jennifer
