My records indicate that the parents of John Newton Doak were John Whitfield Doak b. Oct. 18, 1778 in Augusta Co. Virginia, died Oct. 6 1820 place unknown, and Jane Alexander, no other data on Jane. John Newton is the son of Samuel Doak, b. Aug. 1, 1749 in Augusta Co. Virginia, died Dec 12, 1830 place unknown, and Esther Elizabeth Montgomery b. 1760 and died Jul 3, 1807, places unknown. Samuel is the son of Samuel Doak b. abt 1700 in Ulster, Ireland, died May 19, 1772 place unknown, and Jane Mitchell, no other information on Jane. The Samuel Doak born in Virginia is an important figure in Tennesse history and was a chaplain in the Revolutionary Army. He started the first school in Tenn. and he was a Presbyterian circuit rider preacher. Check out your Tenn. history and No. Carolina Revoluntionary War history for more info on the Rev. Samuel Doak.
