Hello
Would you mind helping me please? Would you still have the books "A History of the Sandy Creek Baptost Assn" by Elder George W Purefoy and " History of NC Baptists" by George Washing Pascal? My ancestor was named George Ray or Wray. I know he was in Warren co NC in 1784 with a Baker Wray and a William Wray. All three opwned land that joined each other's land. He must have left Warren co NC because there was an order for George Wray or Ray to serve on a jury in 1790 in Chatham co NC. In 1791 George Ray and wife Rachel joined the Powelton Baptist Church in Hancock co Georgia by letter of transfer. The records of that church said that George and Rachel Ray joined by letter of transfer from an arm of the New Hope Church or Baptis Church signed by Elder Solomon Smith. It did not say where the New Hope Church was located but I found where another perosn joined by letter of transfer from the same church and it said it was in Chatham co NC. I also did some research and found that Elder Solomon Smith was an elder at the Haw River Baptist Church in Chatham co NC but that was probably before he was an edler at the New Hope Baptist Church. As you probably know the New Hope Creek is in northeast Chatham co NC so I assume an arm of that church meant they were out on the frontier and like you said in your message they would hold church services possibly held by an elder of the New Hope Church who would occasionally hold church services out on the frontier and the New Hope Church was the closest church but possibly too far to attend on Sunday from where the people lived out on the frontier. I had hoped to find some information about the New Hope Baptist Church in Chatham co NC in the late 1780's or 1790 or even the early church records to see if George and Rachel Ray were lilsted as members and any other Rays or Wray listed attending church there at that time. I am trying to find who George Ray's parents were and if there were other Rays or Wrays attending church there maybe George was related to them somehow and would give me an idea which Ray lline George Ray was from. Any help you could give me would be appreciated. Thanks,Ross
