Hi,
I know quite a bit about his travels.Grayson County is on the Oklahoma/Texas border and Quantrill and his men wintered there, near Sherman, during the Civil War.My great-grandfather made his home in Falls County, Texas but also lived in Durant, Oklahoma at various times. He purchased his 1871-76 diary in Decatur, Wise County County, Texas. The very fact that your husband's great-grandfather lived in Grayson County says a lot because my great-grandfather traveled the Texas Trail that ran through Grayson County which went from Missouri to Texas.
Check out this Texas Counties map:

Did your great-grandfather ride with Quantrill? Was he from Missouri?Who did he marry?I would love to hear more of his story.
I have a feeling your husband's great-grandfather and my great-grandfather knew each other.
Thanks,
Betty
