In Reply to: Jno. Young 1880 US Census born 1825 living in Van Buren, TN by Michael Witherspoon of 17981

I searched the 1900 MO and TN censuses for the Young family and batted zero.

I reviewed the 1880 census then went back to 1870.
Jackson Co., TN
John K. Young 51 KY farm laborer
Mary 21 KY
Sarah 7 TN
Marquis 4 TN (Mark)
Texas 3 TN
Grace J. 5/12 TN (apparently deceased betwn 1870/1880

I then went to the Kentucky census:
1850 Laurel Co., KY
Hiram Young 45 TN (died in 1880 KY) garmer
Elizabeth (nee Shell) 44 NC died in 1896
Margaret 23 TN
JOHN K. 19 KY (1831)
H. H. 14 KY (Hiram H.)
M. Jane 10 KY
Jeremiah 7 KY
William 3 KY
Martin 1 KY

Family trees at ancestry show that there was also a son: Samuel but do not give his year or place of birth. Please note that between 1870 & 1880 John K. only ages 4 years. These folks did not read/write so they were strictly guessing as to their ages. Please note the ages of Sarah and Texas are off between the 1870 & 1880 censuses, so it is possible this Nancy's age may be off as well on the 1880 census.

Hiram Young served in the Cherokee Wars from March, 1838 to 7/1838. He was mustered in at Calhoun, TN. Hiram and Elizabeth married in 1826 in Warren, TN - this info is per the public trees at ancestry.

We do not know who was answering the 1880 census wherein all are stated as born in TN when in fact John & Mary were born in KY. The son age 12 is actually B-U-N not Bur. I am not related, just addicted to genealogy. Hope the above is of some help. Pat
