Hello,
Don't know if these will help, but I found these mid-18th-century extracts a while back from the Strabane/Donagheady/Leckpatrick area:
12 June 1760 Will of Rev. William HAMILTON of Strabane:
mentions sister Letitia HAMILTON, sons Rev. John HAMILTON, Thomas HAMILTON, Sir Patrick HAMILTON, Knight, Alderman of the city of Dublin, daughters Jane HAMILTON married to .......MACGHEE, grandson John HAMILTON and grand-daughter, Catherine YOUNG.
Proved by Sir Patrick HAMILTON of the city of Dublin Knt. 17 July 1765.
8 July 1763 Will of Letitia HAMILTON
mentions niece Lettice CANFIELD sisters Jones and Ann GODREY, nephew John HAMILTON and his two younger sons “now in America” nieces Catherine, Lettice and Jane YOUNG and niece MACGHEE.
prove 8 Oct 1766
Also, from "Irish Deeds," Vol. 10, pg. 161, comes this:
George McGhee of Strabane, County Tyrone, apothecary, and his wife Rebecca, sister of Patrick Hamilton, deceased, granting to John Love, Hugh Brown, John Wilson, Andrew Carson and Robert Akin, all of Strabane, a plot of ground 81 feet by 29 feet with the new meeting house built on it in the upper end of said Strabane Town bounded...by High Street on southeast by Jn. McLenehan, on northeast by a back street and on the northwest by Walter Mortimer, in consideration of the surrender of a lease of which there is 23 years to run granted them by the said Pat Hamilton of a house now let to Jas. Knox and called the Old Meeting House.
witness: Francis Forgie, gent., and James Johnstone, apothecary, both of Strabane, Jn. Gay of Omagh and Hugh Brown. Memorial signed by both McGhees.
This Donegal/Tyrone border country was home to many descendants of Alexander Mcghie, whose will I think was dated 1729, and which mentions several children who had emigrated to Pennsylvania.Does anyone know of a link to this family?
Many thanks!
Chris
