James Young JP Hartlebury Worcestershire

I am researching the will of Robert Blount of Astley, Worcestershire, England, 1573.

"I give and bequeathe by this my present last will and testament to Francis Blount esquire my brother and James Young of Hartlebury for the payment of all such debts as I owe ..."

James is elsewhere described as "James Young Justice of the Peace".

I do not know who this James Young might be; he does not sound "local". His description as being "of Hartlebury" might be a clue. Hartlebury Castle was then, and still is, the seat of the Bishop of Worcester. At the time of Robert's will, Nicholas Bullingham was Bishop of Worcester, but previously the bishop had been Edwin Sandys, who left Worcester in 1570 to take up his appointment as Bishop of London and later as Archbishop of York. What might be of interest to all you folks on the other side of the pond, is that Bishop Edwin was of the Virginia Company Sandys' family. Had James Young, Justice of the Peace, been sponsored by Bishop Sandys? Francis Blount was keeper of the park at Hartlebury, perhaps also a Sandys appointment.

Any clues would be gratefully received.

Gillian.
