my Yosco (aka Iosco) family...
In my efforts to trace this line of my tree, I've only come across a small amount of facts...hoping that someone out there can help me add on to it!
My great-great-great-grandfather, Lorenzo IOSCO, was born in Italy (unconfirmed city) & married Maria (unknown). They had at least one son, Domenico, in December 1825.
Domenico IOSCO married Maria Antonia RUSSO (or Rupi? - unconfirmed) circa 1865 in Italy. One census record states that she had 18 children, but I have only obtained copies of the following children thus far:
-Maria Lugia IOSCO b.1866
-Rocco Lorenzo IOSCO b.1869
-Mariarosa IOSCO b.1873
-Rocco Giuseppe IOSCO b.February 11, 1874
All were born in the town of Castelmezzano, province of Potenza, Basilicata region.
I have no details on the two daughters yet, but have confirmation that the two boys & their parents immigrated to New York City circa 1877.
Rocco Lorenzo married Bessie (unknown) who was born circa 1886 in Russia. He 'Americanized' his name into Lawrence & began a business named Lawrence Yosco Manufacturing Company where he created musical instruments like mandolins and banjos.(Many are still in existence & being traded on eBay constantly!)
Rocco & Bessie had 3 children, to my knowledge:
-Florence b. ? in NY
-Robert b. 1905 in NY
-Rosalia b. ? in NY
*I had been tracking his family through census records, however that is limiting...I'm hoping that out of the 3 children there is some living relative that will contact me! :)
Rocco Giuseppe IOSCO married Rose LAURIA circa 1897 in NY.She was born in March 1875 in Italy (unsure of area). They had 7 children:
-Maria Antonia YOSCO was born July 27, 1897 in NY & died June 11, 1969 in Brooklyn, NY.
-Alvina Veronica YOSCO was born April 23, 1899 in New York, NY, and died December 5, 1900 in New York, NY.
-Lillian YOSCO was born in ?? NY.
-Eleanor YOSCO was born in 1904, and died November 7, 1960 in Brooklyn, NY.
-Evelyn YOSCO was born in 1907, and died in Florida.
-Robert Joseph YOSCO , Jr. (* my grandfather*) was born January 15, 1909 in NY City and died on June 12, 1981 in Long Beach, NY.
-Rose YOSCO (Robert's twin) was born January 15, 1909 in NY City & died in 1921 in Brooklyn, NY.
Rocco Giuseppe also 'Americanized' his name, becoming Robert Joseph Yosco. He was a singer/songwriter/comedian in Vaudeville & wrote the hit song, "Spaghetti Rag" with his partner, George Lyons. He moved his family from NY City to Brooklyn circa 1910 & died there in September 1942.
I have further details of marriages for his children on my web page: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/p/i/Susan-M-Spitzer/http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/p/i/Susan-M-Spitzer/as well as having many pictures of them.
