“Mrs. Lillie Viola Burton. 56, died at her home, Candler Heights, Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church with the Rev. C.W. Bates, the Rev. T.A. Groce and the Rev. John L. Tillery officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jackson Smith, Sewell Miller, Charlie Simmons, A.P. Courtney, Mark Smith and Nathan DeBoard.
Flowerbearers were Miss Sally Mae Wright, Mrs. Charlie Simmons, Mrs. Luther Payne, Mrs. A.P. Courtney, Mrs. S.C. Miller, Mrs. John L. Tillery, Mrs. Jackson Smith and Mrs. Myra Loftis.
A native of Rabun County, Georgia, Mrs. Burton was the daughter of the late C.C. & Pelonia Kirby York. She was married to John E. Burton in 1911. She was a member of the Tiger, Georgia, Methodist Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Jable Holcomb of Clayton, Georgia; Mrs. Lane King; Mrs. Carl Miller and Mrs. Walter Wilson, all of Candler; two sons, Surber Burton of Candler and Sam Burton of the Army, overseas; two sisters, Mrs. H.L. Keason and Mrs. G.W. Watts, both of Tiger; and eight grandchildren.
