Hello Amy,
I have recently connected to Richard York(e) of Dover, Strafford, New Hampshire, through his daughter, Rachel, who married Benjamin Hull, son of Rev. Joseph Hull of Crewkerne, Somersetshire, England, leader of the "Hull Colony" in New England (1635).
I find that Richard Yorke was assessed for tax purposes at Dover, Strafford, New Hampshire between the years 1648 to 1666 [Notable events in the history of Dover, New Hampshire: from the first settlement in 1623 to 1865; Wadleigh, George; Dover, N.H.; 1913]
Did I see that you stated his will was included in Ancestry's database "New Hampshire Probate Records 1635-1753"? I understand that Richard's will was imperfect (unsigned), but did identify his daughter, "Ratchell Halle," who is believed to be Rachel (Mrs. Benjamin) Hull. [The Hull Family in America; Weygant, Charles H.,; Hull Family Association; 1913] I have yet to find a transcription of Richard's will, only references to it.
You state in your message that Richard was born in England; is that correct? I had him referenced as "of Dover, Strafford, New Hampshire," but no definite birth place. If Richard was born in England, then the information I found stating his father, John, was born in Dover, Strafford, New Hampshire is most likely incorrect; he probably would have been born in England, as well, judging from the ancestry you have listed.
I show that Richard's father, John, died ca 1640 in North Yarmouth, Cumberland, Maine; does that sound correct to you? If that is the case, and Richard was born in England, they were both immigrants...do you happen to know anything of their immigration information (i.e. year, ship)?
I am impressed with your diligence in researching that far back. I presume you have solid sources for your declaration. Do you have primary sources?
