Sherrie, I have found a WWI Draft Registration Card filled in by Will York on Sept 122, 1918.At the time, Will was married to Maud; they were living on Delta Ave. in Nashville and he was working as a Blacksmith Helper at the Railroad. The card gives his birthdate as June 20, 1882 which would fit with the information I found in the 1920 and 1930 censuses. It also fits with information found in the 1910 census which shows Will as married to Maud and living in Dallas County, Texas with Maud and their son Raymond. Will was working at farming.
On the basis of the June 1882 birthdate, and utilizing the names of Will's siblings as listed in your posting of September 9, 1999, I searched the 1880 and 1900 censuses. In the 1880 census, I did not find Will, since he had not yet been born but I found an Isaac L. York, his wife Levia (or Livia) and their daughter Ludocia (could be Dosha) living in DeKalb County, Tennessee. In the 1900 Census, Isaac was living in Bedford County, Tennessee with his wife Olivia (probably the same wife as 1880) and his sons Willie F. (age 17) and Oscar (age 13).Even though I have not identified the other siblings, i.e. Sophia and Rildia, I think there is a good possibility that this is the family of William Floyd York.
To help me be more certain, and perhaps help me further in this research effort, could you tell me how you came by the names of William's siblings and whether you have any additional information about them?I would appreciate any information you could offer in this regard.
Many thanks, James C. "Jim" Palmer
