Hi Dessa,
After further research it is thought correct spelling of name is Loret York.
James G. York of Kentucky, War of 1812 veteran, married Elizabeth Parker. James died in Madison County, Tn ca 1839 and Elizabeth died Madison County in July, 1833.
Their known children:
Loret York born 1823
Mahulda Goings York b. July 7, 1826 in Davidson County, Tn died Jackson, Tn. Nov. 22,1911 (my 4ggm)
Daniel P. York b 1828 died in Madison County, Tn after 1887.
Loret York married Thomas Black shortly after the death of James G. York. Loret died in child birth in either 1844 or 1845. To my knowledge the couple had no surviving children. Most likely your Amanda is Thomas' second wife.
After the death ofJames G. York the minor children Mahulda Goings York and Daniel P. York were placed under the guardianship of John Black. I do not know if this is the same John Black who married your Mary York.
It is most likely these Blacks are part of the large family of Amos (b. Jan 20,1804-Sept 3, 1877) and Lucy Black. Amos is buried in the York Cemetery near grave of Elizabeth York in the vicinity of Medon, Tn.
Do you have any information as to the parents or siblings of your Mary York? If her husband is the John Black who served as guardian she is most likely from the same line as James G. York, et al. The Goodspeeds Biography of Daniel P. York states he had "three" sisters. Could Mary York be sister number 3?
I look forward to hearing from you.
