The little research I have done on the Yopp name indicates it was spelled Jopp, Iob, and Job in various places. The old German Swiss Spelling is Hiob. My Yopp ancestors immigrated to the US, arriving at a port in Virginia then moving on to Kentucky (St John's) around the 1840s. A tombstone for my gr gr grandfather shows the name as Jopp. A history of St John's reflects the Yopp's immigrated from southwestern Bavaria (now Germnay). Wish I knew more. I always thought it might have been a shortened version of a name but that was just an assumption on my part, I've found no evidence to support that.
