Lois:

I know we are somehow related, but not quite sure how yet.......This is what I have on Yelverton Peyton Lawrence so far:

From the records I have he is buried with his family in Hatch Cemetary in Marion County, Ill.........He was born in Tennessee around 1832, but was in Fayette County, Ill (Vandalia area) by 1850, and is listed in the 1850 census as living with my ggg grandfather, William T. Lawrence.......He served in the Civil War, and was in the 63rd Ill Infantry.......He married Sarah Yolton in Nov., 1867 and died in 1914..........

I am not sure how Yelverton is related to William T. Lawrence, but I suspect it is his nephew......Yelverton is to old to be his son, because Yelverton was born in 1832 and my ggg granfather was born in 1817...........I know that William T. Lawrence was born in 1817 in Virginia, but I am not sure exactly where........I suspect that the Lawrences migrated from Virginia to Tennessee and then somehow ended up in Illinois by the 1840, because my ggg grandfather was married in 1839 to Amanda Maria Phipps around the Vandalia, Ill area........

There was also a John T Lawrence in the Vandalia, Ill area throughout alot of the mid to late 1800's..........John was born in Virginia in 1835, and is listed in land dealings with my ggg grandfather in the 1850's............

There was also a James E Lawrence in the Vandalia area in early to mid 1800's....He died in 1868, leaving a widow, Julia, with several children.......Many of the children of John and James had names like William, James, John, Susan, Hester......so I know they are all related somehow................

There is a Lisa Nance, who lives out west, doing researh on Yelverton Lawrence...She is in the process of getting his death certificate. Her email address is jljnance@wtp.net

Any thoughts on how Yelverton and William T. Lawrence are related?

If you could share any information you have on the Lawrences that you have I could try to figure out how we are related.......

How do you know Yelverton was from North Carolina?

I know we must be related somehow...I now live in Hoshcton, Georgia, but have extensive family in Decatur, Illinois.....My g grandfather, Harry Harrison Lawrence moved there around 1920..........Thanks, Gerald Lawrence (706) 658-2576
