Benjamin Yetter (non-Amish Yoder) and Mary Eliza Leist had three children before Benjamin's untimely death in about 1801. According to the Yoder newsletter, Letters of Administration were granted to Mary Yoter and John Yoter on 15 Nov 1802. Their children were: Melchior (1799-1859), Catherine (1801-1883) and my ancestor Elizabeth Yetter(1802-1880).
Mary Eliza took her children to Washington Twp, Pickaway Co, Ohio where she married John Yeager in about 1808. Many of the Leist family moved from PA to Pickaway Co, OH around 1804. John Yeager and Mary Eliza Leist had 5 children together and lived in Clinton Twp, Jackson Co, OH. John Yeager's will was dated 31 May 1853. I have a photocopy of the will abstract, which reads: Yeager, John of Clinton Twp. Wife Mary Eliza. Several bequests were made to John Yeager's sons and his daughter's children. "Wife's wearing apparel after her death go to her daughters Catherine, Elizabeth, Rachel, and Mary who are the wives of John Critsswester, Patric Reed, Rial Catlin, and Mathias Crow." The bequest of Mary Eliza's clothing to her daughters was an important piece of the family puzzle.
My ancestor, Elizabeth Yetter, married Patrick Reed (1798-1862)in abotu 1821 and they lived in Vinton Co, OH near Hamden. It has taken many years to piece all of this together, and the Yoder Newsletter has been invaluable to my family. Now I wonder if anyone can provide proof of where Mary Eliza Leist fits into the Leist family. She was probably born in Northampton Co, PA where David and Andrew Leist lived before they moved to Pickaway County, OH.
I'd love to hear from other descendants of Benjamin Yetter and Mary Eliza Leist.
