Updated information that I have found on my Great Great Grandfather and family is as follows:
According to a 1900 census of Black Hawk County, Black Hawk Township, Iowa, Adam Yockstick is listed as being born in Prussia in December of 1829. He and wife Hannah have been married 43 years and had 16 children with 8 living. Adam was naturalized in 1854 and he is a Farm owner. Hannah, his wife, was born March of 1835 and has a place of birth stating Prussia. The only child left at home at this time is my Great Grandfather, Edward Yockstick, born July of 1875 in Iowa and is listed as a Farm Laborer.
On the same census but different page Adam and Hannah's son Charles and family is listed. Charles born in ?August? of 1871 with place of birth as New York and parents as being born in Germany. He also, like his Father, is listed as a Farm Owner. Lucinda listed as his wife, born in ?March? of 1871 in Iowa and married 8 years to Charles. Children to this marriage was 1 and 1 was living, a daughter named Callie Iva born in December of 1898.
Another son and family on the same census but still another page was William Yockstick. William was listed as being born in March of 1864 in state of New York and parents being born in Germany.William unlike his Father and brother Charles is listed as a Farm Laborer and as a Renter of a House. Elle is listed as his wife and she was born in September of 1877 in the State of New York. William and Elle married 12 years and then it gets questionable as far as the children. Elle states that she is mother to 1 child and 1 still living but 2 childen are listed as Daughters in this household. Was William married before? It almost looks like the number 2 has been written over with a 1 in the number of years that William and Elle were married, can anyone clarify this? Children listed were Eva May being born in September of 1888 in the state of New York and Mary Elizabeth being born in December of 1899 in Iowa.
I hope that this is helpful to any other Yockstick family cousin out there searching for information. I will update again as the information becomes available.
All Yockstick cousins are more than welcome to contact me at [email protected] I would love to share information!Connie
