Hello David. I am also a g-granddaughter of Andrew Huffnail Yerex. His son William Henry is my grandfather. He was a carpenter and also travelled for work. He died in Streetsville. My dad was Orval Henry Yerex. He was born in Galt, March 1, 1913. He died on June 9, 1968.
My sister, brother and I were all born in Galt and still live in the area.
My sister, Jinnie, and I just came home from Prince Edward County where we did some family research. What an amazing place!
I'm very interested in your information about my grandfather's siblings. We knew about Mary Elizabeth (we called her Aunt Libby), William Henry, Albert (Uncle Ab), David, George and Cecil, but not the other two. Who were they? Do you know what happened to them, and also to George and David? I believe he died in Toronto, but do not know his story. Who were the children born in the US, and were they both Mary's children? I ask this, as our Aunt Libby did not resemble her brothers and had a definite native appearance. Do you have the birthdates and places for all of them?
As well, would you have any idea where the name "Huffnail" came from? We found the gravestone of a Jacob Huffnail at the UEL Heritage Park at Adolphustown, and the 1878 historical atlas for Prince Edward County has "Huffnagle" (which may be another spelling) owning land near the Yerex farms that were owned by Andrew Charles'nephews and a niece. We have been unable to find a family connection to the name, though.
As well, do you know what happened to Andrew H., as our understanding is that he left Mary in Galt and possibly went back to London. She is buried in Mount View Cemetery, Galt (now Cambridge) and has only her name on the stone, other than saying she was Andrew's wife.
I knew Libby, Ab and Cecil, but my grandfather died before I was born. I can give you information on my branch of the Yerex's, if you want it. Thank for whatever information you can offer.
