Rosalind, her name was Harriet Ophelia Yerby, and she is shown as Harriet, on the 1860 census of Tuscaloosa Co., AL. The Western Division, North Port, AL on page 717. It list John Yerby, his wife Ann G. Hassell Yerby, and all their kids. Harriet was 9 years old. The census taker spelled the last name as Yearby, instead of Yerby. Also, back in 1935, this lady that lived in Bakersfield, CA was a granddaughter of Harriet Ophelia. This is what she wrote (I got this from a book in Birmingham, AL):::: "Harriet Ophelia married Alfred Smith, son of David Smith and Sarah Ann (Holcomb) Smith. They are my grandparents. I an a daughter of their oldest child, Tillie Yerby Smith. The descendants of this family are very numerous. Most of them are in Louisiana and Arkansas. Some in Texas and California." Rosalind, I have 13 children of Harriet "Hattie" Ophelia Yerby Smith, and Alfred Smith. Hope this helps answer your question. Della Notify Administrator about this message?
