Looks like we are on the same path. Through my research, I found that there are currently 4,000 Y-DNA genetic surname projects in existence, but none for the Youmans, Yeomans, Yeamans surnames or their variants. So I have started one by contributing by own Y-DNA. My cousin Tom Yoemans is now also being tested, which will give us a starting baseline from which to compare. We are hoping to recruit many other males who share the Youmans surname, especially of out the New York Youmans line. If you have come to a brick wall like I have, I strongly encourage you to consider joining this project. You can learn about how to do this by visiting this site:

I have been researching the Youmans surname for many years tracing my ancestor William Youmans back to New York ca 1780. In the process, I have amassed a considerable knowledge base on the Youmans family including Grant Samuel Youmans' book as well as research done by John H. Greener, who published information on almost 1000 individuals residing in America with the surname Youmans dating back to 1658. I am more than willing to share this information as well as the results of the Y-DNA project that I am administering. Genetic genealogy, tightly coupled with traditional paper-trail based genealogy research, is fast becoming the best way to go. Let's not be left behind! I hope you will consider joining this landmark project.
