LOOKING FOR OTHER BRANCHES OF FAMILY
Posted by: GEOFF YEOMAN Date: September 02, 2001 at 04:19:38

MY NAME IS GEOFF YEOMAN BORN IN LEEDS, ENGLAND IN 1948. THERE ARE NO MORE MALES NAMED YEOMAN IN MY BRANCH OF THE FAMILY SO I AM INTERESTED TO KNOW IF I HAVE ANY RELATIONS IN OTHER BRANCHES OF THE FAMILY IN THE UK OR OVERSEAS
MY FATHERS NAME WAS CHARLES YEOMAN BORN IN LEEDS, ENGLAND IN 1913.
MY GRANDFATHERS NAME WAS PERCY YEOMAN BORN IN LEEDS, ENGLAND IN 1877.
PERCY YEOMAN HAD 2 ELDER BROTHERS :- JOHN WHO DIED WHEN HE WAS A CHILD AND CHARLES HENRY WHO DIED c.1910 IN GIBRALTAR. HE WAS SINGLE AND HAD NO CHILDREN.
PERCY ALSO HAD 3 ELDER SISTERS :- EDITH, ISABEL, ELIZABETH AND ROSE.
ROSE MARRIED A GUY CALLED STABLES AND THEY EMIGRATED TO CANADA EARLY LAST CENTURY.
PERCY'S FATHER WAS CALLED CHARLES YEOMAN AND I THINK HIS FATHER AND GRANDFATHER WERE ALSO CALLED CHARLES.
WE HAVE A BUSINESS CARD 'CHAS. YEOMAN & SONS - PAINTERS & DECORATORS - ESTABLISHED 1813'.
THE FAMILY HOME WAS IN BURMANTOFTS, LEEDS, ENGLAND.
I WAS TOLD BY MY FATHER MANY YEARS AGO THAT THE FAMILY HAD A STRONG CONNECTION WITH WHITBY, YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND. I HAVE AN OLD SILVER POCKET WATCH HALLMARKED 1834 WITH THE NAME OF THE SUPPLIER IN PICKERING, YORKSHIRE WHICH IS NEAR TO WHITBY WHICH TENDS TO SUBSTANTIATE THE THEORY.
A MEMORIAL STONE IN WHITBY HARBOUR ERECTED IN MEMORY OF A GROUP OF SAILORS WHO WERE LOST AT SEA BEARS THE NAME OF A YEOMAN.
THERE IS ALSO A PLAQUE INSIDE THE OLD CHURCH IN WHITBY INDICATING THE BURIAL PLACE OF REV. WALKER - YEOMAN , ARCHBISHOP OF CLEVELAND, YORKSHIRE.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFORMATION PLEASE CONTACT BY E-MAIL. (geofyeoman@aol.com)
