Jim,
Yes it is the Yeldell Family of Philadelphia (pub.1996) by Oliver Weaver. On p.80 Martha m. Peter Evans.Martha is the d/o a James Yeldell & wife Elizabeth Blake (aka Blackley, not documented but suspect a desc of Benjamin & Sarah Philpott Blackledge who moved to Craven County NC abt 1755 who eventually made their way to ala.) James is the son of James & Elizabeth Gibson Yeldell.I do not have verification of the middle initials. The Martha C that married Peter Steen was the d/o Robert & Margery Carson Yeldell. This Robert is also the s/o of James & Elizabeth Gibson Yeldell, so therefore according to his book were brothers. The only note of the Peter Evans on p.80 states:
On November 1, 1833 Peter Evans acquired a forty acre lot in the Yeldell settlement that lay one mile west of James (f-i-l) land in Wilcox county, Ala. two years later he added 120 acres to it, making him the owner of the NW 1/4 (160 acres) of Section 31, Twp. 12N, R12E. His land joined that of Rober on the north and William Yeldell on the east.
Peter Evans, a native of S.C. may have come to Alabama with the Yeldells. In the U.S. Census of 1830 p173 only one name separated the name of Peter Evans from that of James Yeldell Sr. Peter was shown as 40 to 50 years of age, his wife (Martha) as 20-30.
It goes onto state Oct 1843 Orphans court ordered final settlement of the estate of his f-i-l. it was ordered that $125.59 be paid to "Peter Evans in right of his wife Martha Evans." Three months later Peter Evans gave Joseph A Yeldell(b-i-l) a receipt which he signed Jan 1 1843: "Rec'd of Joseph A. Yeldell of estate of James Yeldell my part in full payment of one hundred and ninety seven dollars."
I find him in 1840 Greene, Ala.Hope this is of some help.
