Kim,
I am nearing the point at which I will hire some researchers, so I have a few questions for you. To best target the research, the researcher will need to know as precisely as possible, which of your ancestors might have been the Mr. Yeider in my ancestor's text. I have looked at your posted Yeider genealogy and would like you to confirm that my findings are correct, as far as this cider mill business. My David stated that he completed his 2-year carpentry apprenticeship in the fall of 1847. And he says the incident involving a Mr. Yeider was in the first year of his apprenticeship. So that places all of this in 1845. Your 4g-grandfather, Jacob Yeider, b.1790, would seem to be the most likely candidate, since my David refers to the Mr. Yeider he met, as "old" at the time. Your (second generation) Jacob's birth year was only one year removed from that of my David's father (1790 and 1791, respectively). You mentioned the business being passed down for generations, but apparently, this Jacob's father is as far back as you can trace the line.
Your 3-g, Michael, was only eleven years old in 1845. His oldest brother, John, was 25, but your line through Michael seems to be the one that stuck with running the cider mill. So John may not have been involved in it. What are your thoughts on this?
Any pertinent dates, for anything relative to the family business, would be very helpful. And do you have any information on the precise location of the cider mill? Were there any other business partners or, as I suspect, was this strictly a family run business? And finally, do you have any period-specific written correspondence or other printed matter that identifies or talks of the cider mill business? Is it known when the business was first begun? Since their press is in a museum, there must be at least some printed matter on the business. When was the business dissolved or ended, such that the press wound up going to the museum? And finally, what is the name and location of the museum, so that I might contact them? And finally, I see from the other line of discussion, some mention of old photographs. What is the earliest member of your lin for whom you have a photograph?
My research findings will undoubtedly be of at least some use to you, so I will be sure to keep you posted on what develops. I just don't want to pay someone to dig up information you already have about your family and the cider mill.
Thanks, Dan
