At the Strafford County Registry of Deeds (Dover, NH), I saw a deed dated 20 March 1829.Hopley Meserve of Milton, trader, pays $48 to Benjamin F. Guppy, Betsey Chamberlin, Harriett B. Guppy, Samuel Muncill, and Maria A. Muncill (all of Brookfield, NH), to quit their claim to a parcel of land in Milton, NH.They had received this land from the Widow Mary Meserve, now Mary Wingate, previously the wife of Stephen Meserve.END
Benjamin F., Betsey, et al., were the children of Comfort Meserve and William Guppy, and so were Mary Meserve's grandchildren.
The deed makes it clear that the Mary Meserve, who was Comfort's mother in 1772, was still alive in 1829, since she was currently married to Enoch Wingate. So, I have concluded that Stephen Meserve's wife was Mary Yeaton (1753-1849).
Some sources say that Stephen Meserve was the son of Clement Meserve and Abigail Ham, but other sources say that Abigail Ham married Clement's brother Daniel Jr.I have come across no other proposed wife for Clement (3).
In another Strafford County deed dated 14 August 1829, Betsy Chamberlin, Maria Muncill, and Samuel Muncill sell 17 1/3 acres Milton NH land for $99.The land "was set off to the mother of said Betsy and Maria, as her share in the Estate of her father, Stephen Meserve."END
