I have a George YEATMAN, Master Smith, who I presume was born sometime circa 1740, and who died at Woolwich, Kent in 1799.
George YEATMAN (also YATEMAN, YATMAN, etc) married his first wife, Sarah THOMPSON, on 9 May 1782 at St Bride, Fleet Street, London. Sarah was a widow - unfortunately I don't know her maiden name. The marriage details read:
"George YEATMAN of the parish of Giles Cripplegate, London, Bachelor, and Sarah THOMPSON of this parish, widow, were married in this church by licence on 9 May 1782..." The witnesses were John WITHERFIELD? and Wm SHEPHERD.
Sadly, Sarah died just four months after her marriage to George YEATMAN; she was buried on 1 Sep 1782 at St Mary Magdalene Woolwich, and her MI states that she died aged 44 (so born circa 1738). During those few months of marriage, Sarah and George YEATMAN had a child: Sarah YEATMAN, who was later to marry John GILL on 11 Sep 1803 at St Mary Lewisham.
George YEATMAN eventually remarried, but not for some years. His second wife, Elizabeth DINMORE, he married on 11 Oct 1791, again at St Bride, Fleet Street, London. The marriage details state:
"George YEATMAN of the parish of Woolwich, in the county of Kent, Widower, and Elizabeth DINMORE, Spinster, of this parish, were married in this church by Licence, 11 Oct 1791..." The witnesses were John CHAPMAN and Elizabeth FINCH.
As far as I know, George YEATMAN and Elizabeth DINMORE had no children. When George died in 1799, he left his estate to his widow, Elizabeth, with the residue to go to his daughter Sarah upon Elizabeth’s death.
If anyone knows anything about George YEATMAN – his place of birth, etc – I’d be grateful of some help, as I have come to a brickwall. And of course, if anyone else shares this YEATMAN connection, I’ll be happy to let them have copies of the info.
