1.There is little to say about the earliest Yarwoods met so far, since they are single instances of the occurrence of the name:
a: An obituary mass was said for a John Yarwood in Wallasey church in c. 1420 ….. so one might guess at a birth date in the last three decades of the 14th century.
b: A John Yarwood(adult) appears on a rental of Mainwaring property in the Knutsford/Peover area in 1459/60 …. soguess born roughly in first three decades of 15th century.
2. John and Katherine Yearwood, issue bn.c. 1752-4.This search immediately throws up the all too common problem, best illustrated in these 'one-name' studies, that of ambiguity … I searched 1715 - 1735 and have 25 John Yarwoods (certainly or probably) born in that period.Of these I can certainly or tentatively follow 19 of them far enough to preclude them being your John in Virginia.None of the remaining 6 marries a Katherine that I know of but this does not preclude such a marriage (or second marriage): they are:
i) John, son of Joseph and Mary, bpt. 19 Aug. 1717, Lower Peover (Ches.)
ii) John, md. Ellen Jackson, widow, 12 Feb. 1748, Warrington (Lancashire)
iii) John, son of William and Mary, bpt. 3 July 1720, Church Hulme (Ches.)
iv) John, son of John and Mary, bpt. 10 May 1724, Eccleston (Lancashire)
v) John, paying recognizance as an ale seller, 1744/5, Little Legh (Ches.)
vi) John, son of Jonathan and Ann, bpt. 5 Dec. 1727, Wilmslow (Ches.)
Clearly some of these Johns may be the same and equally there will almost certainly be some strays not yet found.I'll let you know if any more turn up but it would be useful if you were able to find an age at death of the Virginian John.
3. Any details of first generation Yarwoods in the US would be of potential use to me as they may help resolve the sort of ambiguity illustrated above.
