I have no idea if I have anything of value to offer, but here goes. My gggrandfather's death certificate list a Hyrus Baldwin as his father. His mother's maiden name only is listed as Yergan/Yergin. I'm not sure of the correct spelling. On the 1860 census, Cherokee Co. Ala. a Francis Baldwin is listed with 8 children one of which is my ggrandfather Rufus. Francis is his mother, possibly a widow. On the 1870 census, Etowah Co. Ala. the family shows up again. This time Rufus is married and they are living with his mother. Could it be possible that Francis has moved to Etowah Co. to be closer to family that may be able to assist her as a widow? (Obviously, I've not been able to find Hyrus Baldwin so I'm trying another route.)
If you have anything that I can use I would be very grateful.
Thanks,
Helen
