Dear Family,
I happened across a terrific site where you can search through George Washington's papers, letters, diaries.

Since we have record that (Johann) Adam Yeaple was in the Revolutionary War in Cantine's Regiment of the NY Militia, I did a quick search of "Cantine" and it turned up a reference to Pakatakan, although spelled differently.

I'm posting the web main address here and the search address--there looks to be an amazing amount of info available at this site. A quick search turned up matches for Orange County, Ulster County, Minisink, New Paltz, New Windsor. And it's really interesting if you happen to be a history lover--amazing visual reproductions of letters and documents as well as searchable text versions. I grew up in Orange County, NY--so it was especially fun to explore this history site.
