Dear Fran,
Thanks for your continued interest. I don't think that the First Families will let me in. I can't really prove my connection to Sir John Yeamans, because my family tree is incomplete. I have a very large tree drawn up in 1928 by an architect in Nashville, TN. It is composed of two large branches, and alludes to Sir John Yeamans, but does not have the line traced all the way back to him.
Here I am with a miniature portrait of this man (devilishly good looking with powdered hair and all), the most treasured object to come to me from my mother's family, and no way to prove my relationship. That is why I am trying so hard to find a portrait of the man. Since the family was fairly large, (he was married once before marrying Margaret Barrenger), and I have discovered four male children of his, there must be a relative out there some place with a picture of the man. I can't imagine their being a miniature in my possession without a portrait having been made from which the miniature was copied.
Though Sir John's reputation has been sullied by Col. Cave's research in England, John's father, Robert,( I believe) was a highly respected man. He was the hero who worked to save the City of Bristol from the Roundheads during the civil war. Charles II gave him some sort of award after he was made king in the restoration. Chas. II also gave Sir John his title, and made him a general. Perhaps this was before the alleged poisoning.
Cheers,
