The Yeadon name

I am not a Yeadon by name but I grew up in the town of Yeadon,Leeds in Yorkshire, England. I though I'd share with you folks what I know about the town.

Yeadon means "steep hill" and it's easy to see why - leading up to the town center is an extremely steep cobblestone road called -"The Steep".

What I always thought extraordinary was the number of people who lived there with the name "Yeadon" - a dozen people at least in my school. (obviously lots of descendants of the Yeadon's simply stuck around for centuries!). I never heard of anyone with the name "Rawdon" or "Guisely" (neigboring villages) but lots of Yeadons!

The cool thing about the name Yeadon is that you can pinpoint the exact town in England where you come from. How many people can say that?

Also, there are many enthusiastic local historians in the area (my stepfather was one)and if you go to the local libraries/bookstores many books have been written (using old parish records)which document the inhabitants over the centuries.

It's a beautiful town with lovely people if you ever go to visit.

Hope this was helpful.
