Yavner Family Genealogy Forum

Hi cousin,
Jack Yavner was the youngest son of Moshemendel and Stella Yavner, as per an earlier email. Symond is still in contact with my mother, Rachel Wood, granddaughter of Jack's brother William.
I can't remember the name of Jack's wife, but it was not Viola and it was not anything typical of Americanized Russian Jews. It might have been Augusta. According to my gramma, recently deceased, Jack's wife was actually a New York City Sephardi, i.e., a descendent of the Jewish families who settled in New York City in the seventeenth century. A very unusual lineage!!! to say the least, especially for the wife of a Russian Jew, settled as a farmer in Windsor. Not knowing what else to call her (in that time when everyone was identified by their nationality), the Yavners called her a "Yankee." According to my gramma, she was not very happy being a farmer's wife.
