Yates In West Virginia? James Moses Yates?
I am looking for information on my family and once I have reached my great grandfather it seems to have stopped. He is burried in am unmarked graveyard in West Virginia I think its in Pocahontas co. Near a place called Boyds Chapel. The gravesite is on a piece of land that was once owned by a coal company who sold it to the gas company a few years ago. My father and uncles have talked about there is a possibility that theres up to if not more than 50 unmarked graves located here. Mostly family but also people that lived close to it at the time. The graves where not marked except fo a a couple including my great grandfather. Im not for sure when he passed away(sometime around the 1920's) but he was married to a Nannie Lucelia Smith/Yates who was born on 07 June 1880 and passed away on 03 July 1960. Her Father was Abraham Smith and her mother was Mary Perdue. Story has it that when the coal company was stipping for coal a dozer operator ran through the center of the graveyard before he realized what he had done and also a guy by the name of Beasely? had stumbled upon this graveyard while hunting years ago and had wrote a letter to the newspaper about it. Story also has it that my great grandmother was almost if not full blooded cherokee indian. If anyone has any information on anything i have mentioned that would be greatly appreciated.
