I found Phineas and Melissa in Washington county Ohio on 1850, 1860, and 1870 census. In 1850 they had a 7 mo old child Frank, who would have been born in late 1849. They were in Waterford township in 1850.

Found this posted online.
10 AUG 1849: in Washington County....
Malissa E. S. HALL Married Phineas H. YATES of Morgan County.
Malissa is the daughter of Alfred HALL and Narcissa ROSS.

In 1840 Waterford, Washington, OH there were three Yates families.
John Yates, age 60-70, no sons
B Yates, age 30-40, 1 son under 5, 1 son 5-10
Laban Yates, age 40-50, no sons

These three Yates were living in adjoining households, and all were 7 households before Alfred Hall. Any of them might have been Phineas' father. Since Phineas was of Morgan County at marriage, and at age 14 he might have been old enough to have been working off of the family farm. Waterford in Washington township is on the border to Morgan County.

I did find tree's online indicating Laben Yates was from Douglas, Worchester, Massachusetts. Also that Laban was son of John. Children listing for John ends before Phineas would have been born.

I'm not related.

I noted that Eva had a son Dexter. John Yates is also shown as having a son named Dexter in his online trees.
