John Yates from Virginia died @1825

I am looking for the parents of Catherine Yates born in Virginia around 1792 and married in 1812 to William Cowden in Tennessee. They moved to Jefferson County, Alabama where she died around 1860. I believe her father may be John Yates. There was a posting in the Huntsville, Alabama newspaper to sell John Yates' land in Tennessee about 1826 by William Cowden. The Cowdens also named a son, John Yates Cowden. John Yates was most likely a Revolutionary War veteran from Virginia. They must have lived somewhere near the Duck River in Middle Tennessee near Shelbyville, but all records have been lost. He is not listed in Census of area in 1820. The Cowdens lived in Marshall County, Tennessee. If anyone knows anything about this family please contact me. Thanks. Gail Reed
