I'm not certain that I know where Oneida is. "My" Yates family were centred on Aalplaas (Alplaus on modern maps), across the Mohawk from Schenectady, NY. Mary Yates (Edward's daughter) was born in Palatine, NY 16 Sep 1813, m. Septimus Henry Norris in Schenectady, NY 15 Sep 1853 and died in Philadelphia, PA 12 Dec 1909. Further research does not reveal a brother by the name of Edward, nor any siblings whatever.
The name Edward was not at all usual in "my" Yates family. There was a progression of alternating Josephs and Christophers (or, Christoffels) from 1664, when the first Joseph is found in New York Colony in the year it was acquired from the Dutch. The last Christopher Yates (known as "Colonel Stoeffel") had been a lieutenant and captain in King George's NY Troops against the French in Canada where he was badly wounded, and later was a lt-colonel of the 5th Albany Militia and was DAQMG to General Schuyler in the early part of the Battle of Saratoga until Schuyler was relieved by Gates. His sons were all lawyers, state senators and ministers who were also college professors at Union College.
