As a professional archivalist I have a few tricks up my sleeve sometimes. Hurley (correct spelling) offically died March 27th, 1956. His story is very intersting and I am still trying to make a few correct tyes. His birth date is listed as Nov 22 1892 near or at Spirit Lake, Iowa. What is interesting are the differnt spellings of his mother's name - they have her listed as Johanna unknown. His place of residence at time of death was Clinton, Iowa. He was a commerical fisherman, at the time he was employed at the Soldiers Home - selling fish to the home. All of the records that have been presented to me stated that he lived at dies at the soldiers home, but that is not correct. He was employeed there for several years, selling fish and living on the grounds when there, that and being a veteran entitled him to burial on the grounds. He died due to a Cornary Thromboris (?) and sclerois(sp) of the liver due to drinking. Rumor has had it in the family that he was killed during a poker game and that is how my dad obtain the diamond ring from him. Again it is always intersting to hear family history but also sad when you have to take it apart and tell someone that sorry but that is not correct at all. The Obt also states that at this time he was the last surviving member of his family. If anyone is intersted I also have all of his military infor. I also have Andrew Yarnes cw & gar badges and such. I am glad that all of this is getting straightened out. On a different note, my grandmother did keep in contact with the other Yarnes she also kept a very neat birth and date book, I will get it when I go up next week. She explained at one time that one of the Yarnes Women (she stated it was Hurley's Aunt) had changed her name to Yarns due to she was the black sheep of the family and wanted to seperate her self from them? again who knows.
